The office of a Latin American politics professor at the George Washington University (GWU) is adorned with photographs of dictators responsible for tens of thousands of murders in Central and South America.
An image of recently reelected Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez, as well as Communist terrorist Che Guevara, and Cuban President Fidel Castro are all clearly visible in photos of the office of Dr. Cynthia Mclintock’s, which were submitted to LI’s Campus Reform early this week.
A pamphlet from the Communist Party of Chile is also visible near the top of the display.
In a phone conversation with LI’s Campus Reform on Wednesday, Dr. McClintock, who is a noted scholar of Latin American politics, acknowledged the photos belong to her, but denied they denote support for the dictators.
“I’ve gotten a lot of compliments on them,” she said. [B]ut“I don’t support these individuals.”
McClintock also said pictures of the right wing authoritarians Pinochet, the former President of Chile, and Alberto Fujimori, the former President of Peru, are also included on her door.
In testimony before the House Committee on Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on the Western Hemisphere from February 4, 2009 McClintock was critical of President Bush, US immigration policy, and the drug war.
Throughout the testimony, McClintock advocated for President Obama to cooperate with President Chavez and the Bolivarian Alliance for the Americas (ALBA). The ALBA is a far left international organization founded by Chavez and associated with a far left democratic socialist ideological bent.
When asked on Wednesday about her past public advocacy for the United States to work Hugo Chavez and his place within the collage, McClintock abruptly ended the interview.
FEC disclosures indicate Dr. McClintock is a long time donor to liberal causes. In the past she has donated thousands to the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence, the Democratic National Committee, Barack Obama’s 2008 presidential campaign, and Socialist Senator Bernie Sanders.
