[VIDEO] Socialist Presidential Candidate Stumps at Ithaca College

By Timothy Dionisopoulos, on October 29, 2012

Recent video released shows a speech by socialist presidential candidate Peta Lindsay at Ithaca College in New York on October 15, 2012.  Lindsay spoke at the request of the local chapter of the College Feminists.

Lindsay, who is the nominee for the Party for Socialism and Liberation (PSL), seized on the opportunity to push her party's ten-point platform which includes planks such as placing a ban on capitalism, providing for abortion on demand, and a complete dismantling of the US-Mexico border.

Throughout the speech Lindsay also made a number of controversial statements calling the United States the “greatest threat to world peace” and encouraging attendees to illegally break the blockade and sneak into Cuba.

“Everyone should go to Cuba if they can, it’s very cool to see what they did with their society,” she said.

During the question and answer period the Lindsay’s remarks took a more revolutionary tone.

“For us the priority is about building revolution in the streets,” she said.

Another question asked if the “revolution” was going to be a “Bolshevik type party leading the working class in seizure of state property?”

“We are a Leninist Party so we do believe that leadership is important,” the candidate replied.

Leninism is a strain of Marxism which was the dominant ideology in the former Soviet Union and is commonly associated with a vanguard party which uses violence to accomplish its goals.

When asked for comment from LI’s Campus Reform Ithaca College Associate Director of Media Relations David Maley suggested administrators were not responsible for the event.

“There is nothing I am aware of that this person violated any policies of the college nor did the organization bringing in a speaker violate the policies of the college,” she said

The PSL website calls capitalism a “dictatorship of the rich,” and claims the party’s ultimate goal is the “overthrow of the 1%.”

Former leader of Libertarian movement in New Zealand urges students to fight bias in academia

By Campus Reform Staff, on October 25, 2012

Libertarian pundit Trevor Loudon encouraged students to directly confront liberal bias on their college campuses, in an interview with Campus Reform on Tuesday

“Do you play the covert resistance fighter, fudge your answers, and attempt to graduate, by slipping under the radar, or do you confront the system head on?” posed Loudon.

“I favor the direct approach… students should band together in pro-liberty groups and collect evidence of bias in the system.”

Loudon is the former leader of the free market, ACT New Zealand political party in New Zealand. He is also the author of the book Barack Obama and The Enemies Within.

In the interview, Loudon also urged students to take conservative activist and Leadership Institute Alumnus James O’Keefe’s lead by using technology to combat such abuse in higher education.

“Record lectures, biased rantings with your cellphones,” advised Loudon.  “Record their ridiculous ravings for all to see.”

He concluded, arguing that conservative students “can change the culture of American universities” if they are “prepared to make a stand.”
