Bakersfield YAL Defends Free Speech on Campus

By Adam Weinberg, on November 22, 2011

"You mean, I can write whatever I want?"

That was probably the most common question Ryan Smith received when his Young Americans for Liberty chapter hosted a Free Speech Wall event at Cal State Bakersfield.

That question alone should explain why they felt such an event was necesssary. Check out their video below:

Myths and misconceptions abound at public colleges and universities - some proliferated by faculty and administrators themselves - about the freedom of expression to which students are entitled when they set foot on campus.

Saul Alinsky's Rule #11 "If you push a negative hard and deep enough, it will break through into its counterside."

Even a negative situation can be reforged into a positive for an activist.  If you take the proper steps, and are relentless in your framing of the message, even a terrible scenario can benefit your group.

A great example of this rule is when the Youth for Western Civilization Chapter at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill (UNC) invited Congressman Tom Tancredo to speak at on campus on the topic of illegal immigration.

The campus left went in an uproar, and organized a massive protest outside the building where the event was held.

The protest soon spun out of control, as various leftists would run into the room to disrupt Tancredo's speech.  Then a group of protesters unfurled a banner reading "no human being is illegal."

The unruly display reached its peak when one protester threw a brick through the window of the room where the event was held.

Opportunity To Intellectually Grow At LearnLiberty.org

The Tenth Law of Leadership Institute Founder and President Morton Blackwell's Laws of the Public Policy Process is "Sound doctrine is sound politics."

In order to be an effective political activist, it is imperative you are well versed in the finer points of the ideology you're advocating for.  This makes you a better political leader, as you can clearly articulate the reason why you should take action to the people you are organizing.

An excellent educational resource for conservatives and libertarians is www.LearnLiberty.org a website hosted by the Institute for Humane Studies.

Saul Alinsky's Rule #10 "The major premise for tactics is the development of operations that will maintain a constant pressure upon the opposition."

This is the most important rule because it incorporates the rest of Alinsky's tactics into an all encompassing dictum.

On most college campuses there is generally only one organization for conservative students.

The left has a wide range of clubs on campus that engage in a variety of political activities.  Some work on elections, others are on the ground activists, while others create as cultural associations that win the hearts and minds of your peers.

As an on campus activist, your goal should be to recruit as many other activists as you can in order to create more conservative groups.

Western Nevada Course May Cause Blindness, Hairy Palms

As if the leftist establishment in many colleges today weren't already engaging in endless mental masturbation, one campus is going for a double major.

By Timothy Dionisopoulos, on November 10, 2011

On November 10, 2011 the George Mason Young Patriots of America at George Mason High School will launch the "school wide flag pride" campaign to raise awareness towards respecting the flag. The group decided to release this program in honor of Veterans Day.

The George Mason Young Patriots of America Club is a conservative political ideology group at George Mason High School which was started last April. This is the Young Patriots' second major effort following the September 11th Memorial Ceremony they hosted earlier this fall.

"The Flag is a national symbol of our past and present freedoms, and we thought that this was a great way to show respect towards America, and bring awareness to our fellow students" said James Hickey, President and founder of the George Mason Young Patriots.
