It Went Viral—The Story of Christine Rousselle’s Expose of the Welfare State

By Timothy Dionisopoulos, on December 20, 2011

Christine Rousselle is a Leadership Institute trained activist who recently wrote an article entitled "My Time At Walmart: Why We Need Serious Welfare Reform" that has gone viral.

Hundreds of thousands of people have viewed the story, and the piece has been discussed on just about every single news website (both left and right) on the internet.

It is a shot heard around the blogosphere, with conservative commentators applauding her amusing insights, while the usual gaggle of leftists decry her candid stories about their beloved welfare system.

Mark Levin has stated that Christine is going to be famous one day and Christine claims her greatest ambition is to become the new Ann Coulter.  Witty and gutsy columns like this indicate she may not be far from such a goal, and hopefully we see many more to come in the near future.

Fortunately, I was able to catch up with Christine in between her busy schedule of exams and right wing activism to explore her motivations behind the piece, how it spread so quickly, and why she thinks it's become such a hot topic.

It Went Viral--An Interview With Christine Rousselle's About Her Welfare Expose

Petitioning: A Solid Recruitment Technique

By Tony Listi, on December 19, 2011

Sometimes students will not give you their names and contact info if you're openly and explicitly trying to recruit new members for your group, but those same students will sometimes give you that information if they think that they are merely voicing support for or opposition against something.

Apparently, many students want their voices to be heard but don't want to be bothered to join a group or to actually do something requiring much time and effort to have their voices heard and their views become policy.

Your student group can take advantage of this phenomenon through petitioning fellow students. Petitions allow students to have their voices heard if you submit the petition to the person in authority, whether it be the university president, the board of regents/trustees, or an elected official. But petitions, to have legitimacy or credibility, also require contact information so that their authenticity can be verified.

How to Be an Effective Pro-Free Market Group

By Tony Listi, on December 15, 2011

Economic liberty and free enterprise are central to conservatism. Coercive wealth redistribution not only stifles economic growth, making everyone poorer, but it is also immoral legalized plunder. Government bureaucracies and politicians are also inherently less accountable to the people than private businesses that must constantly compete for consumer favor and dollars in the marketplace. Every day is election day in the marketplace.

VIDEO: Alinsky's Rule #13

By Timothy Dionisopoulos, on December 05, 2011

Saul Alinsky's Rule #13 is "Pick the target, freeze it, polarize it, and personalize it."

Identifying a specific issue with a public figure is an excellent way to gain public support for your cause.  The intricacies of an issue will not resonate in the same way that an actual person will with your base of supporters.

This video details how conservative student journalists writing for the Virginia Informer at the College of William & Mary scored a major victory against the leftists in charge of their administration.

Gene Nichol was already an established and outspoken progressive when he became the President of William and Mary, which is second oldest university in the country.  Once in power, he used his position as President to institute a number of left wing policies that usurped the rich traditions of the school.

One of the more blatant actions of Nichol was the removal of the cross from the on campus chapel, on the grounds that it was uncomfortable for non-Christian students.
