What's Taught in a Queer Theory Course

By Tony Listi, on February 03, 2012

Last week I decided that I was going to subject myself to three courses within the Women, Gender, and Sexuality department at Rice University: Intro to Women and Gender, History of Feminism, and Queer Theory.

The common teaching among all the classes: failure to put the well-being of children first (or no mention of them at all), denigration of motherhood, and identity based on egocentric rather than loving desires.

Need for Pro Life Activism At Rice University

By Michael McGonigal, on September 16, 2011

Rice University is located just minutes away from the second largest planned parenthood in the world! However, despite a prominent Baptist Student Ministry and Catholic Student Organization, there is a lack of pro-life organizations on campus.

Unlike the rest of Houston area schools,  Rice does not have students who are participating in the prolife movement.

Almost every other school in the area has a pro-life organization, including St. Thomas University, Houston Baptist University, the University of Houston (which has two!), and South Texas College of Law.

Rice is an excellent academic institution with highly intelligent students.  Many of the future leaders in both Texas and country will call Rice their alma mater.  The left ensures that their point of view is well represented on every campus in America.

Campus Life

The number of conservative to liberal student groups is evenly matched on campus.

There are four conservative groups: College Libertarians, Owls for Israel, Rice Objectivism Club, and the Rice Conservative Forum.  The Rice Conservative Forum is affiliated with CampusReform.org's Campus Leadership Program, which provides groups with advice, assistance, and many kinds of support.

The Rice Standard gives conservatives a voice on campus but is not a strictly conservative paper.

There are four liberal groups: American Civil Liberties Union, Amnesty International, Young Democrats, Queers and Allies, and Open Magazine, a liberal publication funded by Campus Progress, the campus division of the liberal Center for American Progress.

On October 22, the Rice Conservative Forum squared off against the Rice Young Democrats on the overall performance of President Obama. About 100 students walked in giving the president a GPA of 3.07 but left giving him a 2.9.

The topics covered included health care, education, foreign policy, and economic policy.

KOYC Remembers 9/11 With Flag Display

By Klein Oak Young Conservatives, on September 15, 2010

Students of The Klein Oak Young Conservatives Club at Klein Oak High School have put on a flag display to remember and honor those who lost their lives in the attacks of September 11th. The flags were at the Klein Oak High School campus (22603 Northcrest Dr. Spring, TX 77389). Assembled on Thursday, September 9th at, they stayed up until 2:00 PM on Sunday, the 12th. The flags were open for anyone to view, enjoy, and take pictures with.

The project consisted of 2,996 flags, each representing an American life lost in the terrorist attacks of 9-11. There is one large flag in the center that represents our country's togetherness even in times of crisis.

"September 11th is a symbol of our country's unity and a reminder that we need to stay strong through troubled times," said Zach Gehring, a member of the club.

"This project is here to reflect on our unity, honor those who protect it, and mourn those we have lost," noted President Brent Cooper. "Our country needs to never forget the brutality we faced in 2001 and the way we composed ourselves in response. We hope these flags will remind people of that."
