CAMPUS REFORM LIVE WEBINAR: GMU Objectivists to Host Debate On Role of Government
Wednesday February 8, 2012 at 8 p.m. the George Mason University (GMU) Objectivists Club will be hosting a debate on "Is Government the Problem or the Solution" between Yaron Brook of the Ayn Rand Center for Individual Rights and David Callahan of Demos.
This debate will be live streamed as a webinar on the Reformers Blog of www.campusreform.org and on our facebook fan page. If interested in attending in person, the debate will be on the Arlington campus of GMU in Founders Hall Room 134.
The size and scope of government has become one of the most contested issues in American politics and is emerging as a focus of the 2012 election. This debate will elaborate on important questions pertaining to the proper role of government.
Dr. Yaron Brook is President of the Ayn Rand Center for Individual Rights, noted financial columnist, author, professor of finance, and internationally sought after speaker on a wide range of political issues.
Brook will be arguing the position that our government's primary focus should be on protecting individual rights, private property, and free markets.
Dr. David Callahan is the co-founder of Demos, an author, professor of politics, and nationally published columnist.
Callahan will defend the position that government should have a more prominent role in society and work to craft policies that solve societal problems and promote a greater degree of equity.
Morton Blackwell's 10th Law of the Public Policy Process is "Sound doctrine is sound politics."
Watch this debate and increase your understanding of the nuances of government's role within society. A chat feature will be available for this webinar, so viewers from around the country can ask questions of the debaters.
