Tuesday's $100 Winner

By Bonnie Kristian, on October 7, 2009

Congratulations to Jordan Yurt of Eastern Kentucky University, the Tuesday winner of $100 in Campus Reform's "Report a Leftist Abuse" contest!

Jordan let Campus Reform know about the unconstitutional "Free Speech Zones" which had been established at EKU.  As explained on Monday on the EKU Campus Reform blog,

In a blatant disregard for the freedoms established in the First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, the administration at Eastern Kentucky University last week established "free speech zones" for students.

There seems to be some debate on how exactly these zones affect students. Several members of the College Republicans were cautioned against protesting a visiting congressman, and - according to several of the members - were threatened with arrest by the Chief of Police or the Director of Student Life.

....Greg Lukianoff, President of The Foundation for Individual Rights in Education (The FIRE), said at a recent presentation at Ohio State University that free speech codes are nearly always struck down by the Courts when challenged by students. EKU should take note and save Kentucky taxpayers on the front end, rather than fostering an environment ripe for legal prosecution.

Here's a picture from the second protest which the students were eventually able to have after getting a special permit (some "free speech").  Jordan is pictured 4th from the left:

Jordan will recieve $100 for having the best (which means worse) leftist abuse of the day.   You can still enter a leftist abuse for a chance to win $100. Click here for contest information.
