Why take action? Because it can bring in the big bucks.

By Bonnie Kristian, on December 11, 2009

Raise funds as a result of effective activism.Campus activism brings your conservative or libertarian student group attention, and attention can bring in funds.

I don't mean funds like the funds you make from a bake sale.  Bake sales can be decent fundraisers, especially if they have a solid political message attached -- like this activism idea.  But this sort of fundraising event is not a good model on which to base your fundraising strategy:  It simply isn't worth the effort you'll have to put into it.

What should you do instead?  Fundraise like a real nonprofit.  Consult Campus Reform's Famous Foolproof Fundraising Formula, which will teach you "How to Solicit Money Personally for College Speakers Programs, Student Publications and College Clubs."

Of the many ways students raise funds for campus public policy activities and organizations, only the following method, personal solicitation, has proved to be universally successful.  That’s why it’s known as foolproof.  And why it is famous....
If properly asked, many people will gladly give contributions to support conservative student activities.  Such people can be found in every community and in every state, including yours.

Taking action on campus will attract the attention of potential donors and give you great stories to share with them.  If they've already heard of the good work you're doing on campus, it will be much easier for you to request their support.

So print out a couple copies of the Fundraising Formula to share with other members of your group.  Introduce them to the reasoning behind your project by sharing this blog post with them as well.  Then, pick an activism idea and start planning it now for the spring semester.

Your club can't function without funding, and effective activism can make consistent donor support a reality.  Take action today!
