Why take action? Because your efforts can bring philosophical balance to campus.

Solely because of your political views, you’re wearing a target on your back.Solely because of your political views, you’re wearing a target on your back.

You didn’t ask for it.  But the more effective you are as a conservative or libertarian activist on campus, the bigger and bolder that target becomes.

If your school has a culture of suppression of academic freedom, don't be surprised if you meet strong opposition to your support of liberty.

It probably won’t be direct censorship – your administration may be too slick for that. If you debut a libertarian newspaper, for example, they may suddenly find arcane rules about distribution. They may claim your paper must be submitted for prior approval by some campus bureaucrat. If you host a conservative speaker, they may impose security fees so burdensome as to make the event impossible.

Don't let opposition discourage you.  Your effects CAN bring philosophical balance to your campus.

Check out the resources Campus Reform has to offer to assist you in this process:

  • Fight Back -- Many liberty-loving students never say anything when they're shut up on campus because they don’t know how to fight back.  But if you play your cards right, you can fight back successfully.  This guide will show you how.
  • Why Protest? 5 Reasons to Get Out There -- Demonstrations and protests are some of the most effective methods to draw attention to your group and your cause, yet many conservatives remain reluctant to protest. There are multiple reasons your group should consider demonstrating or protesting
  • Betrayal of Liberty and Intellectual Pluralism on American Campuses -- a powerful speech by Professor Alan Charles Kors on how higher education is a threat to individual liberty and is dominated by the extreme political left.

So print out a couple copies of these resources to share with other members of your group.  Introduce them to the reasoning behind your project by sharing this blog post with them as well.  Then, pick an activism idea and start planning it now for the spring semester.  It's never too early to begin.

You have the resources of Campus Reform and a number of other national, legal, and state-based organizations at your disposal.

So be prepared for opposition, but don't be worried.  You can win on campus.
