Leftist Abuse

Is Your Student Government Treating You Unfairly?

By wes, on January 13, 2010

Take action for fair allottment of Student Government Association funds! If your school is like many, your student government probably has significant influence over the student activities budget.  Depending on those elected to the government, conservative and libertarian student groups may find themselves subjected to routine discrimination.

Some student governments treat these groups unfairly by allotting to them a disproportionately small portion of the activities budget.  Others may refuse to officially recognize a group.

These unfair, left-leaning student governments show no symathy for students who support liberty and academic freedom.  Because of this, they may refuse to allow a conservative or libertarian group to present its case during budget meetings or determine not to give a fair allocation.

Florida’s Global Warming University

Not content to push global warming theories on students even when temperatures don’t support them, Florida Gulf Coast University is trying to censor skepticism off of its campus. When Brandon Wasicsko of the FGCU Eagles 4 Liberty club attempted to advertise a showing of the documentary Not Evil, Just Wrong, Patrick J. Greene, an associate professor of Educational Technology, went berserk. “This email is a violation of the FGCU policy to not use our email system for Political propaganda,” Greene wrote in an electronic missive to Wasicsko on October 19, 2009. “It also is a fundamentalist right-wing set of lies about the environmental necessity to control our carbon emissions so that our children and there’s [sic] can have the same quality of life that we enjoy.”

'Freedom Memorial' shut down by university authorites - 'offensive'

Yes, I suppose on one level a memorial dedicated to the victims of Communism depicting a gulag on the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin wall might be offensive - especially if it serves as a reminder that the left excused that sort of thing for 50 years. It might be very uncomfortable indeed if such a memorial triggered memories of dismissing the evil of Communism in the name of "peace."

Well, the students at Washington University in St. Louis had no such illusions. However, their depiction of a gulag complete with prisoners and guards proved too much for university authorities to stomach. They proclaimed the display "too offensive" according to St. Louis resident Jim Hoft:

Friday's Winner: Caught Red-Handed with Missing Conservative Papers

By Abigail Alger, on November 2, 2009

The staff of the Carolina Review, UNC-Chapel Hill's conservative student paper, noticed missing stacks of their April 2009 issue earlier this year. But they couldn't quite determine where the issues had gone -- until they found them in the Facebook photos of a student paper columnist and Chapel Hill mayoral candidate in the past week. No kidding. Click through to read the whole story.

Monday's Winner: Bring a Republican to Campus? Get Ready to Be Attacked

By Abigail Alger, on October 27, 2009

Congratulations to Colleen Weldon, a recent alumna of Gettysburg College, for winning Monday's leftist abuse award. Colleen told us how her help in organizing a rally for Cindy McCain in October 2008 led to criticism across campus, and private character attacks by a professor. Click here to read the whole story.

Conservative FGCU student awarded $100 from Web site for outing “leftist abuse”

There are all kinds of punishment for abuse: criminal time, fines, social ostracism.

For one form of abuse, however, there is a reward.

A Florida Gulf Coast University student has been awarded $100 from a Web site for sharing her story of “leftist abuse” in one class at her university.

Kim Legendre, 20, a junior majoring in psychology, received the award Oct. 15 from CampusReform.org, a social networking Web site for conservative and libertarian students.

Her story began in a class required for every student in the College of Arts and Sciences at the university. Foundations of Civic Engagement teaches students about social movements and the importance of speaking up about things that matter to them. It also requires out-of-class community service.

Tuesday's Winner: Mandatory Class in Agreeing with Obama

By Abigail Alger, on October 21, 2009

Congratulations to Kyle of Saddleback College in California for winning Tuesday's leftist abuse award. Kyle -- last name withheld at his request -- told us about English 1A, a required composition course at his school. Students are required to read Barack Obama's Audacity of Hope, respond to quotes selected from it weekly, and write an "argumentation research paper" based on the book for 30 percent of their class grade. Even worse? Kyle tells us there's bias in grading in the class. Click here to read the full story.

Coo Coo Cachoo Mr. Robinson

Is anyone frightened by the prospect of millions of little Barry Obamas running around the country “organizing” their “communities” around petty causes instead of holding real jobs that do something other than increase government control over every aspect of our lives? I am. And so is Kimberly Legendre, a junior at Florida Gulf Coast University (FGCU).

This semester, Kimberly is taking an absurd course called “Foundations of Civic Engagement.” Remarkably, it is a required course at FGCU. After reading the course syllabus and learning more about Kimberly’s experience from my friends at Campus Reform (see www.CampusReform.org) I know two things for certain: 1) I would never send my child to this joke of a university. 2) Florida taxpayers need to “organize” their “communities” in order to create “Civic Engagement-free campuses.”

Friday's Leftist Abuse Winner: Diversity Training or Political Rant?

By Bonnie Kristian, on October 16, 2009

Congratulations to Evan of Bentley University, today's winner of $100 in Campus Reform's "Report a Leftist Abuse" contest!  Evan was required to attend a mandatory freshman seminar about "diversity."  The speaker hired by the university, Tim Wise, took advantage of his captive audience to present a political agenda marked mostly by its utter lack of tolerance for opposing view points of any sort.

Thursday's Leftist Abuse Winner: Welcome to Indoctrination 101

By Abigail Alger, on October 15, 2009

Congratulations to Kimberly Legendre of Florida Gulf Coast University for winning today's leftist abuse award. Kimberly shared information on the Foundations of Civic Engagement, a required course at her university. In it, the instructor, a former "Outstanding Plaintiff" of the Oklahoma ACLU, teaches students how to "elevate" their campus to be "smoke-free" by 2010. But that's not even the half of it. Click through to read the whole story. It's worth it.
