Take Action
Flyer Blitz
| A flyer blitz can be used by any group to promote any issue. First, make flyers which support or explain a particular issue and advertise your group. Have each group member post around campus or distribute a certain number of flyers at a given time – 100 or 200 each, for instance, depending on the number of people in your group. Make sure flyers are approved for posting beforehand – all your effort won’t do any good if the housekeeping staff takes every flyer down the next day. Do this regularly – once a week, for example – for different issues. Your flyer blitzes could also be timed to double as an advertisement for your meetings. Regardless of how often you blitz your campus, make sure to clean up after yourselves, taking down old flyers in a timely manner. This event can be held at any time. HOW TO TAKE ACTION 1. Collect the materials needed for the event. You will need to acquire a significant number of well-designed flyers. How many you need will depend on the number of students at your college or university, but at minimum you should have one for every five students. Contact the Student Activities Office or other appropriate office on campus to make sure your flyers are approved for posting. Find out if there are any locations on campus where you are not allowed to post flyers. 3. Invite allied organizations. Ask other organizations on campus or in the outside community you think would be interested in smashing the left to contribute to the purchase of supplies or help post flyers around campus. This is a great way to strengthen cooperation between different groups in the conservative movement. 4. Prepare for opposition. Document any opposition to your event – whether from the Student Activities Office when you seek permission to post your flyers or from other members of your campus community. If some behaves belligerently, ask why he or she objects to your exercise of your right to free speech. The Foundation for Individual Rights in Education’s website, located at www.thefire.org, is a useful resource you might check out in advance of your event, particularly if you anticipate serious opposition. For more information on how to deal with opposition on campus, reference "Fight Back." 5. Create a posting schedule. Organize which members of your group will post flyers and which members will take them down after an appropriate amount of time. Set a time for flyering and make a party of the project – this can be a great way for members of your group to become better acquainted. 6. Take down your flyers when you’re done. Once again, don’t forget to clean up after yourselves. If you do not, you will give leftists on your campus an excuse to keep your group from holding future events. 7. Repeat. Flyer your campus frequently and address a wide range of issues. Be sure to keep your flyer designs fresh so they are not mistaken for leftovers from older blitzes. |
