Take Action
Speaker Watch
| Hold a rally to raise awareness about the leftist speakers your college or university brings to campus. Draw attention to a lack of comparable conservative (or Second Amendment, libertarian, and so on) speakers featured on the school calendar. Many colleges and universities disproportionately favor leftists in their selection of speakers for campus events like official speaker programs, convocations, or graduation. This is supported by your tuition payments, and the lack of philosophical diversity is not conducive to an atmosphere of open intellectual inquiry. This event can be held anytime your university brings leftist speaker to campus, especially if no comparable conservative speaker is hosted around the same time. HOW TO TAKE ACTION 1. Collect the materials needed for the event. You will need to acquire poster board and other materials for signs, a table, informational flyers, and a group signup sheet. 2. Reserve space on campus for the event. Contact the Student Activities Office and attempt to reserve the most high-traffic area available. 3. Invite allied organizations. Ask other organizations on campus or in the outside community you think would be interested in smashing the left to contribute to the purchase of supplies, join your rally, or set up a booth by your informational table. This is a great way to strengthen cooperation between different groups in the conservative movement, and to increase attendance and volunteers in the form of members of the other groups. 4. Advertise! Success depends on how well you publicize your event, so you should advertise early and often. This doesn’t necessarily mean paid advertising; “earned media” may work even better for you. Keep a video camera available at all times, and record any aggression – both verbal and physical. If some behaves belligerently, ask why he or she objects to your exercise of your right to free speech. For more information on how to deal with opposition on campus, reference "Fight Back." 6. Hold a planning meeting. Before the rally, hold a planning meeting to make signs, create chants, design handouts, go over talking points, and prepare your publicity plans. 7. Hold your administration accountable! Hold your rally as close as possible to the speaker’s presentation. An ideal location would be around the doors through which the audience will enter. Do not harass those attending the speech, but keep your members enthusiastic, firm, and positive throughout the event. 8. Advertise! (again) The fact that your event is over does not mean that your public relations work is done. Earned media can be extremely useful to you.
