School seeks admin for social justice 'advocacy and activism'
The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign is seeking to hire a new administrator to supervise “social justice education programs” and promote campus diversity.
The job listing, posted Tuesday, advertises for a “Program Director for Social Justice and Leadership Education,” specifying that the university is “seeking individuals with diverse backgrounds who can help create and foster communities that strive toward our vision,” a role that includes “respecting, appreciating, and advocating for the diversity of our student population.”

According to the posting, the new administrator will “assist with social justice and leadership education programs and opportunities for Residential Life staff and students,” as well as “supervise Multicultural Advocates, a comprehensive student paraprofessional staff position that addresses education, advocacy and activism around issues of social justice and inclusion in the residence halls.”
The school explains that the the Program Director “is a member of the Social Justice and Leadership Education (SJLE) team within Residential Life / University Housing,” and will be responsible for administrating “social justice education programs in the residence halls using a residential curriculum model.”
Other core responsibilities listed in the job description include serving on the “Hate/Bias Incident Response Team,” helping to design and implement “selection and training and development processes for Residential Life staff, particularly for Multicultural Advocates,” and more.
The requirements for the position include a masters degree in higher education or a related field, and a “minimum of 2 years full-time experience in Student Affairs social justice programs, Residential Life or Housing.”

The university also enclosed a diversity breakdown of the entire campus while notably omitting the category “white” from its list.
“The diversity of our campus student population currently includes 44,880 total students: 33,467 undergraduate and 11,413 graduate and professional students, 54% men, 46% women, 5% African-American, 9% Latinx, 15% Asian, .08% Native American, 3% Multiracial and 24% International,” the university wrote.
While the job listing did not disclose the salary range for the position, the school does note that the wage “will be commensurate with experience.”
University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign did not immediately respond to Campus Reform’s request for comment.
