[VIDEO] ‘I absolutely believe socialism is the way to go’: Students at May Day protest call for overthrow of Capitalism

Students attending a May Day protest in Washington, DC on Wednesday told Campus Reform they’d like to see an overthrow of capitalism akin to the Cuban Revolution and the implementation of a communal society.

“I’m an anarchist, I believe in communal living, but that’s not a reality for our modern world which makes me tend to think communism is the answer,” one student said.

Another student said he became “absolutely” convinced that “socialism is the way to go” while studying at American University.

“We can do it, we can win, we’ve won before, and we can win again,” he said, explaining his poster which featured a picture of Che Guevara, an Argentine Marxist revolutionary who played a key role in the Cuban Revolution.

Another American University student, who defined himself as an “anarchist,” said he rejected the concept of ownership altogether because social pressure alone would prevent individuals from taking more than their share of communal resources.

“The best way to deal with such things is shunning,” he said. “In small communities, when you have people that shun these people that have these really greedy and advantageous lifestyles, … they start to see, ‘You know what, look around, this isn’t really getting me anywhere.’”
