Emerson College is renaming its school of communication — for one day only — to the “Ron Burgundy School of Communication” on Dec. 4., in honor of the fictitious television anchorman who will visit the college that day.

Burgundy, who is a fictitious character, issued a statement thanking the school of the gesture.

"I had to pinch myself really hard when I learned that Emerson College was naming its School of Communication for me," he said. "It’s kind of a big deal. I can't wait to inspire students with my story of how I got to the top . . . the very top. I'm not going to sugarcoat it. It's a lot of work, especially if you don't have good hair."

On Dec. 4, Will Ferrell will be visiting the campus in character to promote his new movie, Anchorman 2, according to an article in Boston Magazine.

The school has issued a press release that also imagines Burgundy as a real person:

“BOSTON, MA - On Wednesday, December 4, Emerson College will name its School of Communication, for one day only, the “Ron Burgundy School of Communication” in honor of legendary anchorman Ron Burgundy. The KVWN Channel 4 Action News TV star who coined the phrase “You stay classy, San Diego” will share his path to journalism greatness with students during a day-long visit.”

“A visit from Ron Burgundy is a chance to engage with someone who understands the power of media, as well as hairspray, first-hand,” Emerson College President Lee Pelton said in the release.

The day will include a naming ceremony, a visit from Ferrell/Burgundy, a morning press conference and an evening screen of Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues.”

Those unable to attend can watch the entire ceremony online, streamed live on Emerson’s website at emerson.edu/ronburgundy.

Campus Reform was unable to find out whether or not the school is paying Ferrell for the visit in time for publication.
