A top official from the Chinese government issued the United States a list of &quot;wrongdoings,&quot; which included &quot;attacks&quot; on Confucius Institutes operating in America.The list of &quot;wrongdoings&quot; was <a href="https://thediplomat.com/2021/07/during-latest-exchange-china-presents-us-with-2-lists-of-grievances/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">given</a> to U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Wendy Sherman by China&rsquo;s Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Vice Foreign Minister Xie Feng on July 26, and detailed that the United States must &quot;stop attacking the Confucius Institute.&quot;Confucius Institutes are joint educational initiatives between Chinese and American universities, with some oversight from Hanban, a wing of the Chinese government. Although they are marketed as language and cultural exchanges, former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo designated the program as a &ldquo;foreign mission&rdquo; of the People&rsquo;s Republic of China that is &ldquo;part of the Chinese Communist Party&rsquo;s global influence and propaganda apparatus.&quot;<a href="https://campusreform.org/article?id=16784">[RELATED: Biden quietly nixes Trump-era rule combating Chinese Communist-funded &#39;propaganda&#39; centers]</a>During the July meeting, Chinese government officials also listed several other &quot;wrongdoings,&quot; being committed by the USA, such as registering Chinese media as &quot;foreign agents.&quot;&quot;In the list of wrongdoings, China urges the US side to unconditionally revoke visa restrictions on members of the Communist Party of China and their family members, revoke sanctions on Chinese leaders, officials and government agencies, cancel visa restrictions on Chinese students, stop suppressing Chinese companies, stop harassing Chinese students overseas, stop attacking the Confucius Institute, remove the registration of Chinese media as foreign agents or foreign missions,&quot; a <a href="http://tt.china-embassy.org/eng/zt/fyrth/t1895104.htm">press release</a> from the Chinese government states.<a href="https://campusreform.org/article?id=16962">[RELATED: INTERACTIVE MAP: Dozens of Chinese Communist Party funded Confucius Institutes still operate in US]</a>According to a March <a href="https://campusreform.org/article?id=16962">Campus Reform</a> report, at least 56 Confucius Institutes remain in operation, though some of those are scheduled to close in 2021. At least 14 colleges and universities have closed their Confucius Institute between 2020 and 2021, according to the report.The Joe Biden administration quietly revoked a rule that would have compelled all primary, secondary, and postsecondary institutions to disclose all contracts and transactions with the Confucius Institute. Schools who did not report this information could have lost certification for the Student and Exchange Visitor Program, as <a href="https://campusreform.org/article?id=16784">Campus Reform&nbsp;</a>reported.At the meeting, Feng called the United States a &quot;bully&quot; as well, and said that the U.S. operates off of a &quot;rules-based international order.&quot;&quot;The U.S. side&#39;s so-called &ldquo;rules-based international order&rdquo; is an effort by the United States and a few other Western countries to frame their own rules as international rules and impose them on other countries. The United States has abandoned the universally-recognized international law and order and damaged the international system it has helped to build. And it is trying to replace it with a so-called &ldquo;rules-based international order&rdquo;. The purpose is to resort to the tactic of changing the rules to make life easy for itself and hard for others, and to introduce &ldquo;the law of the jungle&quot; where might is right and the big bully the small,&quot; Feng said.

China demands USA  stop  'attacking' Confucius Institutes

After more than four years of litigation, the University of Oregon and a psychology professor settled the latter&#39;s lawsuit, which claimed the school had paid her less than her male colleagues of equal rank and seniority.&nbsp;&nbsp;<a href="https://uonews.uoregon.edu/jennifer-freyd-department-psychology">Jennifer Freyd</a>, a professor emerita, is also the founder of the <a href="https://www.institutionalcourage.org/about-us">Center for Institutional Courage</a>, a non-profit working to &ldquo;create more accountable, effective, and equitable institutions.&rdquo;&nbsp;In 2014, Freyd <a href="https://law.justia.com/cases/federal/appellate-courts/ca9/19-35428/19-35428-2021-03-15.html">discovered&nbsp;</a>that she was earning between $14,000 and $42,000 less per year than the four male colleagues most similar in rank and tenure after the UO Psychology Department shared salary information with her.In response, Freyd attempted to resolve the situation internally. After several failed tries, she <a href="https://thecollegepost.com/oregon-university-pay-disparity-lawsuit/">filed&nbsp;</a>a lawsuit in 2017 alleging that the university was in violation of the Equal Pay Act, which states that &ldquo;every worker must get equal pay for equal work regardless of gender, race, age, or other protected characteristics.&rdquo;&ldquo;Knowing that I have been paid significantly less than my male peers over the course of my career is demoralizing and humiliating. The loss of pay also has had a material impact on my freedom and opportunities now. As someone who has reached a certain level of professional achievement, I feel a sense of responsibility to speak the truth of my experience,&rdquo; Freyd wrote in a 2018 <a href="https://www.jjfreyd.com/equalpay">declaration</a>.&ldquo;The pay inequity I have experienced is very painful and I do not want the women I have mentored, my current and many former graduate students, my own daughter in graduate school, or the junior faculty we have hired in the Department of Psychology to go through what I&rsquo;ve gone through,&rdquo; she continued.<a href="https://campusreform.org/article?id=16371">[RELATED: Calif. taxpayers foot $3 million bill for CSU&#39;s &#39;Center to Close the Opportunity Gap&#39;]</a>In the <a href="https://law.justia.com/cases/federal/appellate-courts/ca9/19-35428/19-35428-2021-03-15.html">lawsuit</a>, Freyd claimed that the UO&rsquo;s own research found that the Psychology Department &quot;faced a significant equity problem&quot; in regards to professor salaries.&nbsp;In an <a href="https://csws.uoregon.edu/2021/01/11/freyd-posts-open-letter-on-pay-equity/">open letter</a> to the UO Board of Trustees, Freyd pointed out that the psychology department conducted a self-study in 2016 which concluded that male professors, on average, earned approximately $25,000 more a year than their female colleagues.The suit stated that UO psychology department head Ulrich Mayr suggested that the college&rsquo;s deans review Freyd&rsquo;s pay because he believed it was the university&rsquo;s &ldquo;most glaring inequity case.&quot;However, in 2019, a federal judge <a href="https://www.insidehighered.com/news/2019/05/28/professor-loses-sex-discrimination-case-over-her-pay-vows-fight">dismissed&nbsp;</a>Freyd&rsquo;s case, siding with the university. The ruling declared that Freyd and her male counterparts are sufficiently compensated for the responsibilities they perform.&nbsp;Freyd appealed the decision to the 9th US Circuit of Appeals, which found that Freyd&rsquo;s male colleagues earned higher pay despite performing identical job responsibilities.&nbsp;&ldquo;We think that a reasonable jury could find that Freyd&rsquo;s statistical analysis shows a prima facie case of disparate impact,&rdquo; 9th Circuit Judge Jay S. Bybee in the majority opinion.&ldquo;I am pleased that the court recognized that the Equal Pay Act applies in professional settings and that courts cannot break down jobs into tiny pieces. They recognized our claim that practices like retention raises can result in discrimination against the law,&rdquo; Freyd said in a March 15 statement.&nbsp;&ldquo;This is not just a victory for me. It sends a strong message of support to so many women who continue to struggle against pay discrimination,&rdquo; she continued.&nbsp;<a href="https://campusreform.org/article?id=10779">[RELATED: Faculty accuse Syracuse of failing to address &#39;gender pay gap&#39;]</a>After over four years of litigation, a joint settlement was reached between the two entities on July 16. The University of Oregon agreed to pay Freyd $350,000 to cover her &ldquo;claims for damages&rdquo; and legal fees. Additionally, UO will make a $100,000 donation to Freyd&rsquo;s organization, Center for Institutional Courage.&nbsp;&ldquo;We are pleased to put this litigation behind us and together affirm our continued commitment to uncover, acknowledge, and address gender inequity and other forms of discrimination,&rdquo; Freyd said in a <a href="https://www.jjfreyd.com/equalpay">statement&nbsp;</a>following the decision.&nbsp;UO and Freyd did not respond to Campus Reform&rsquo;s request for comment in time for publication.&nbsp;

A New York University School of Law professor helped gather signatures for a letter that aimed to discredit one of New York Governor Andrew Cuomo&rsquo;s sexual assault accusers.According to a Tuesday <a href="https://ag.ny.gov/sites/default/files/2021.08.03_nyag_-_investigative_report.pdf">report</a> released by the New York Attorney General&rsquo;s office, <a href="https://dfs.ny.gov/about_the_superintendent">Linda Lacewell</a>, an adjunct professor at NYU Law and Superintendent of the New York State Department of Financial Services, helped gather signatures from former state Executive Chamber staff members for a letter that would have discredited Lindsey Boylan&rsquo;s <a href="https://twitter.com/lindseyboylan/status/1338125549756182529?lang=en">account</a> that the governor sexually harassed her.<blockquote>Yes, <a href="https://twitter.com/NYGovCuomo?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">@NYGovCuomo</a> sexually harassed me for years. Many saw it, and watched. I could never anticipate what to expect: would I be grilled on my work (which was very good) or harassed about my looks. Or would it be both in the same conversation? This was the way for years.&mdash; Lindsey Boylan (@LindseyBoylan) <a href="https://twitter.com/LindseyBoylan/status/1338125549756182529?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">December 13, 2020</a></blockquote>The report stated that the letter, which was ultimately never released, &ldquo;denied the legitimacy of Ms. Boylan&rsquo;s allegations, impugned her credibility, and attacked her claims as politically motivated.&rdquo;&nbsp;Ultimately, the Attorney General&#39;s report revealed that the governor had sexually harassed 11 women.Drafts of the letter reviewed in the NY Attorney General&rsquo;s investigation also contained information claiming that Boylan had &ldquo;connections with supporters of President Trump&rdquo; and also alleged that she had an &ldquo;interest in running for governor.&rdquo;According to Lacewell&rsquo;s profile, she is an adjunct professor at the New York University School of Law, where she teaches &ldquo;ethics in government.&rdquo; Lacewell taught &ldquo;Ethics in Government: Investigation and Enforcement&rdquo; at the NYU School of Law <a href="https://www.law.nyu.edu/academicservices/academiccalendar/2020-2021-academic-calendar">during</a> the fall 2020 semester, which ended on December 18. The process of writing the letter discrediting Boylan began on December 15.The course aimed to cover &ldquo;the legal and ethical responsibilities of lawyers in public service.&rdquo;<a href="https://campusreform.org/article?id=16975">[RELATED: REPORT: NYU government ETHICS prof involved in alleged Cuomo cover-up scheme]</a>Per the report, &ldquo;various drafts&rdquo; of the letter included &ldquo;complaints against Ms. Boylan that were part of the Confidential Files,&rdquo; as well as her interactions with &ldquo;male colleagues other than the Governor.&rdquo;Lacewell, along with other state employees such as Gov. Andrew Cuomo&rsquo;s Secretary Melissa DeRosa, &ldquo;sent or read&rdquo; drafts of the letter in support of Cuomo to various former Executive Chamber staff members and asked them to sign it.However, the letter was not released because Dani Lever, Cuomo&rsquo;s communications director, said that the letter was &ldquo;victim shaming,&rdquo; according to the report.Additionally, according to the report, DeRosa was &ldquo;unable to find factual support for parts of the letter.&rdquo;The group then shifted their efforts away from discrediting Boylan, and crafted of a statement from women sharing their &ldquo;positive experiences of working with the Governor,&quot; the report states.&nbsp;According to testimony from Rich Azzopardi, a senior advisor to Governor Cuomo, Lacewell helped draft the statement.Lacewell was also involved in a &ldquo;team of advisors&rdquo; which had regular discussions beginning spring 2021 regarding how the governor should respond to the sexual assault allegations publicly.<a href="https://campusreform.org/article?id=16036">[RELATED: NYU and Department of Education reach settlement over anti-Semitism complaint]</a>Bobby Miller, a former student at NYU and former president of the university&rsquo;s College Republicans chapter, told Campus Reform&nbsp;that this is an &ldquo;atrocious stain&rdquo; on the university.&ldquo;It&rsquo;s an atrocious stain on NYU that a professor would intervene in this matter to shield the governor from the law,&rdquo; Miller said.Michael Orey, the public affairs director for the NYU School of Law, told Campus Reform that the university is monitoring the situation.&ldquo;Linda Lacewell taught here in the past as an adjunct professor. She is not scheduled to teach in the coming academic year. We are aware of concerns that have been raised and are monitoring the situation,&rdquo; Orey said.Lacewell was also previously involved in <a href="https://campusreform.org/article?id=16975">rewriting</a> a report detailing how many people died in nursing homes because of the coronavirus pandemic.Campus Reform&nbsp;reached out to the New York State Department of Financial Services for comment but did not receive a response.&nbsp;

One NYU School of Law professor helped drum-up support for New York Governor Andrew Cuomo in the wake of multiple women accusing him of sexual harassment, per the state's Attorney General's report.

According to one Vanderbilt professor, &ldquo;Critical Race Theory is the kryptonite of White evangelicals.&quot;&nbsp;Those comments come from <a href="https://divinity.vanderbilt.edu/people/bio/stacey-floyd-thomas" style=" text-align: left;">Stacey Floyd-Thomas</a>, a professor of ethics and society at the prestigious university, one of multiple guest academics during a two-part virtual sermon titled &quot;What is Critical Race Theory?&quot; hosted by Friendship-West Baptist Church.<a href="https://www.friendshipwest.org/team/our-pastor" style=" text-align: left;">Frederick Haynes</a>, the church&#39;s senior pastor, opened the June 23 by <a href="https://youtu.be/0znj8vXDLCA?t=476">claiming</a> that some religious opponents of CRT were not genuinely evangelical due to their skin color.&ldquo;What is even worse, is the fact that baptized bigotry from the Christian right, from right-wing evangelicals who are too White to be evangelical,&rdquo; Haynes said.&nbsp;<a href="https://www.campusreform.org/article?id=17193">[RELATED:&nbsp;UPenn professor condemns &lsquo;White evangelicals&rsquo; as a &lsquo;public health issue&rsquo;]</a>During the discussion with Haynes, Floyd-Thomas enumerated the tenets of Critical Race Theory, including one she related to the Black Lives Matter agenda. &quot;When people see white they see virtue and when they see blackness, right, they see a villain,&quot; Floyd-Thomas stated.&ldquo;Most racists are also Christian,&rdquo; the Vanderbilt professor also said, near the end of her segment.&nbsp;In addition, minister and former Georgetown University sociology professor <a href="https://sociology.georgetown.edu/dyson-2014/">Michael Dyson</a> shared, &ldquo;It&rsquo;s not just that Critical Race Theory is a problem for White people, Black people are a problem for White folk.&rdquo;<a href="https://www.campusreform.org/article?id=15253">[RELATED: Prof is &lsquo;nauseated&rsquo; by &lsquo;paralysis of white evangelicals&rsquo;]</a>Earlier in the discussion, Vassar College professor <a href="https://www.vassar.edu/faculty/luharris">Luke Harris</a> had said, &ldquo;CRT teaches that we must come to understand the pervasive and cyclical implications of institutional and systemic forms of racism.&rdquo;&ldquo;CRT teaches we must work not only to remove barriers to open society but to foster conditions for full membership for people of color,&rdquo; he continued.&nbsp;Harris teaches American politics and constitutional law and is chairman of the African American Policy Forum.The June 30 sermon, &quot;What Is The Critical Race Theory? Progressives have not done enough to stem the rise of anti-Semitism in the United States.&nbsp;That is according to <a href="https://scholars.org/scholar/noam-schimmel" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Noam Schimmel</a>, a human rights expert and <a href="https://classes.berkeley.edu/search/class/noam%2520schimmel?retain-filters=1">instructor</a> at the University of California, Berkeley, who recently published an <a href="https://www.sandiegouniontribune.com/opinion/commentary/story/2021-07-19/jewish-community-assault-abuse-allies">opinion piece&nbsp;</a>in The San Diego Tribune, where he argued that &quot;Jews have been overwhelmingly abandoned by progressive activists.&quot;Schimmel references a recent attack on the San Diego State University Chabad House, as well as violent assaults targeting Jews &ldquo;eating at restaurants, going to synagogue for prayer, gathering to celebrate life events and holidays, at home, walking around their neighborhoods or simply existing and being a part of society.&rdquo;<a href="https://campusreform.org/article?id=17766">[RELATED: Vandals desecrate menorah at SDSU Chabad house]</a>&nbsp;Social media, he argued, is one of the biggest factors assisting the rise in anti-Semitism, as well as why hate directed against the Jewish community is &quot;becoming normalized.&quot;A recent <a href="https://www.adl.org/news/press-releases/preliminary-adl-data-reveals-uptick-in-antisemitic-incidents-linked-to-recent">twitter analysis&nbsp;</a>by the Anti-Defamation League&nbsp;found more than 17,000 tweets with variations of the phrase, &ldquo;Hitler was right&rdquo; in the weeks after the initial outbreak of violence between Israel and Hamas. &nbsp;He stated, &ldquo;The same community of conscience I marched with and supported to advance social justice and human rights is not coming together to defend my rights.&rdquo;&ldquo;Is it because many progressives do not take racism against Jews as seriously as other forms of racism,&rdquo; Schimmel asked.&nbsp;Schimmel and UC Berkeley did not respond to a request for comment from Campus Reform by publication.

A human rights scholar recently wrote that progressives' indifference to hate against Jews has 'normalized' anti-Semitism in the US.

Brown University President<a href="https://www.brown.edu/about/administration/president/about/president-christina-h-paxson">&nbsp;Christina H. Paxson</a>&nbsp;wrote an open letter recently in support of&nbsp;Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) students at the Ivy League institution.&ldquo;As always, we want our community to be assured that Brown does not share information with law enforcement regarding the immigration status of undocumented or DACA status students, and would not without a subpoena or other lawfully issued court order,&rdquo; Paxson stated in the July 21 <a href="https://www.brown.edu/news/2021-07-21/daca">letter</a>.<a href="https://www.campusreform.org/article?id=13993">[RELATED: Campus Reform | Berkeley backs illegal students as SCOTUS hears DACA arguments]</a>The university president was responding to a July 16 by a Federal District Court <a href="https://www.reuters.com/world/us/us-judge-blocks-new-applications-daca-program-dreamer-immigrants-2021-07-16/">ruling</a> that the program is &quot;illegal,&quot; a decision that as of this writing blocks new applicants. If students at Birmingham Southern College want to stay unvaccinated, they&#39;ll have to pay the school $500.&nbsp;The Alabama institution is <a href="https://www.bsc.edu/covid19/fall2021.html?utm_source=Master+List&utm_campaign=c4151bc319-EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_2020_03_26_05_17_COPY_01&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_06ec6328a8-c4151bc319-570095673">charging</a>&nbsp;every student a $500 fee in order to &ldquo;Offset continual weekly antigen testing and quarantining.&quot;&nbsp;Though fully vaccinated students will &quot;receive an immediate $500 rebate,&quot; unvaccinated students will only get the money back after they become vaccinated.&nbsp;<img src="https://s3.amazonaws.com/campus.reform//17926z1op3ScreenShotat.21" class="fr-fic fr-dii">In addition to this policy, the university is also mandating weekly COVID-19 testing and a a separate move-in date for unvaccinated students.&nbsp;Birmingham Southern College states that they are instituting the additional fee because of a &quot;lack of federal funds for pandemic precautions this term.&quot; &nbsp;As of <a href="https://covid-relief-data.ed.gov/profile/entity/067136580">June 30</a>, the college still has $140,076 remaining in the Institutional Portion of its allocated CARES Act Higher Education Emergency Relief (HEER) Fund total.&nbsp;<img src="https://s3.amazonaws.com/campus.reform//17926hcdzrScreenshot.png" class="fr-fic fr-dii">The new guidelines also include punishment for those who fail to comply. On Thursday, <a href="https://algop.org/state-senator-phil-williams/">State Senator Phil Williams</a>, on his radio program <a href="https://drive.google.com/file/d/1jTMAXHHEqZG8KBWbEUIBx_yuScLnEktF/view">Rightside Radio</a>, said BSC was creating a &quot;caste system&quot; between vaccinated and unvaccinated individuals.&nbsp;The College Republican Federation of Alabama released a<a href="https://drive.google.com/file/d/1pZ3Ovpj-XNttMNvDKOMPApkovKlT8OS_/view?usp=sharing">&nbsp;statement&nbsp;</a>condemning the new policies. In their statement, the CRFA claimed, &ldquo;This is a blatant attack meant to shame students who are not vaccinated.&rdquo;&nbsp;<a href="https://www.campusreform.org/article?id=17855">[RELATED: Judge approves IU vaccine mandate, Purdue implements &#39;choice model&#39;]</a>The new school policy &nbsp;comes just a few days after Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall <a href="https://www.wrbl.com/news/alabama-news/attorney-general-steve-marshall-clarifies-legal-questions-surrounding-covid-19-vaccines-in-alabama/">clarified</a> the application of <a href="https://legiscan.com/AL/text/SB267/id/2309837">SB 267</a>, which was signed into law on May 24, stating private and public colleges in the state cannot add new vaccination requirements.While other Alabama higher education institutions are implementing incentives for students to vaccinate, no other school has adopted an extra fee.

Though the college has over $100,000 remaining in available HEER money, the school states its policy is due to a 'lack of federal funds.'

The CDC recently <a href="https://www.washingtonpost.com/health/2021/07/27/cdc-masks-guidance-indoors/">announced</a> new recommendations for mask-wearing for individuals who are vaccinated.&nbsp;CDC Director Rochelle Walensky told reporters Tuesday that &ldquo;in areas with substantial and high transmission, CDC recommends fully vaccinated people wear masks in public, indoor settings to help prevent the spread of the delta variant, and protect others.&rdquo; Walensky added that &ldquo;this includes schools, including teachers, staff, students and visitors, regardless of vaccination status,&quot; according to <a href="https://www.cnbc.com/2021/07/27/cdc-to-reverse-indoor-mask-policy-to-recommend-them-for-fully-vaccinated-people-in-covid-hot-spots.html">CNBC</a>.This update comes just two months after the CDC <a href="https://www.cnbc.com/2021/05/13/cdc-says-fully-vaccinated-people-dont-need-to-wear-face-masks-indoors-or-outdoors-in-most-settings.html">announced</a> that individuals who are vaccinated don&rsquo;t have to wear a mask.&nbsp;Universities are now putting those updated recommendations into practice.&nbsp;Campus Reform has researched some of the most notable mask policies implemented by U.S. colleges and universities for the upcoming school year.&nbsp;On July 19, 2021, Georgetown University sent out a message to the community with its &ldquo;Fall 2021 Public Health Guidelines for Students, Faculty and Staff.&rdquo; The <a href="https://www.georgetown.edu/news/fall-2021-public-health-guidelines-for-students-faculty-and-staff/">guidelines&nbsp;</a>state that &ldquo;individuals, regardless of vaccination status, will wear a mask indoors in University-owned or operated buildings, except when eating or drinking, when alone in a private office or when in your personal residence.&rdquo;<a href="https://www.campusreform.org/article?id=17682">[RELATED: Monmouth University requires vaccinated students to wear masks for fall semester]</a>The university goes on to state that they &ldquo;will continue to monitor public health conditions in our community&rdquo; and that they &ldquo;expect to ease the indoor mask requirement if they remain favorable.&rdquo;Georgetown University has also <a href="https://www.georgetown.edu/coronavirus/covid-19-vaccines/#covid-19-vaccination-requirement">required&nbsp;</a>that all students, faculty and staff show proof of a COVID vaccination to be on campus or &ldquo;in a University-owned or operated building in Washington, DC.&rdquo;The<a href="https://georgetown.app.box.com/s/ohbuft9qrjo6etuqtesx1nzuf1ynjgjd">&nbsp;mask guidelines</a> also made it clear what type of mask the school recommends, stating that individuals should &ldquo;wear a surgical-style mask, or other medical-style mask&rdquo; or even &ldquo;consider double-masking (cloth mask on top of a surgical-style mask).&rdquo; The school said it recommends &ldquo;against wearing a cloth mask alone.&rdquo;For those who don&rsquo;t comply with the mask guidelines, they can be &ldquo;asked or directed to leave the campus space.&rdquo; Additionally, &ldquo;employees and students who are directed to leave a campus space for failure to comply with these Guidelines may be taken off duty and/or subject to disciplinary action in accordance with University policies and the Georgetown University Community Compact.&rdquo;Similarly, Central Connecticut State University has <a href="https://www.ccsu.edu/blueprint/">required&nbsp;</a>that all students, faculty and staff wear masks in all campus buildings, even though the entire community population will be vaccinated, according to the school&rsquo;s <a href="https://www.ccsu.edu/blueprint/vaccinations.html">requirements</a>.&nbsp;The university has allowed for a few exceptions to the mask mandate, giving students the permission to remove their masks:<ul><li style="list-style-type: disc;">Students are not required to wear face masks when in their residence hall room.</li><li style="list-style-type: disc;">Faculty teaching behind plexiglass at a teacher&rsquo;s station may intermittently remove their mask.</li><li style="list-style-type: disc;">Individuals eating in university designated dining areas may remove their mask.</li><li style="list-style-type: disc;">Faculty and staff who work in a private office or a cubicle with 60-inch-high walls or plexiglass can remove their mask.</li><li style="list-style-type: disc;">During a presentation, individuals who are at a podium at least 12 feet from the audience can remove their mask when speaking.</li></ul>The school will also require &ldquo;individuals to maintain 3 feet of distance indoors and outdoors.&rdquo;If a student doesn&rsquo;t abide by the mask policies, a member of faculty or staff can direct the &ldquo;student to leave classroom/office/area.&rdquo; They also have the option to &ldquo;call Student Affairs Office (860) 832-1601 for immediate assistance (and a member of the Student Response Team will be dispatched to the site. The responder will determine if and when CCSU Police assistance is required.&rdquo;Montclair State University is requiring all students and employees to wear masks on campus in the fall. This comes even though the school is <a href="https://www.montclair.edu/redhawk-restart/fall-vaccine-faqs/">requiring</a> all of its students to get vaccinated before returning to campus; however, the school &ldquo;does not require continuing employees to be vaccinated.&rdquo;The mask mandate even applies to bathrooms.&nbsp;According to the school&rsquo;s <a href="https://www.montclair.edu/redhawk-restart/red-hawk-restart-faqs/facecovering-faqs/">website</a>, masks must be worn at all times in classrooms, health care facilities, all university buses, elevators and even restrooms.Montclair State University states that &ldquo;whether you are vaccinated or not, students and employees must wear face coverings indoors whenever it is not possible to keep 6 feet of distance from other people. Masks may be removed when you&rsquo;re alone in a private room or when you are seated at your workstation with at least 6 feet of distance from others.&rdquo;<a href="https://www.campusreform.org/article?id=17476">[RELATED: REPORT: Three UMass students suspended after taking photo outdoors without masks]</a>Duke University is also following this same <a href="https://today.duke.edu/2021/07/duke-require-masks-indoors-again-because-delta-surge">trend</a> of requiring all students, faculty and staff to wear masks on campus regardless of vaccination status. The school will also be requiring its community members to <a href="https://covidvaccine.duke.edu/#:~:text=All%20Duke%20University%20students%2C%20faculty,surveillance%20testing%20until%20further%20notice.">submit&nbsp;</a>proof of vaccination status before returning to campus in the fall.&nbsp;In a letter sent to all university faculty, staff and students on June 28, the school stated that &ldquo;given the rapid increase in COVID-19 cases, hospitalizations and deaths in North Carolina related to a combination of the Delta variant and the number of people who remain unvaccinated, all individuals will be required to wear face masks in all Duke-owned and leased buildings effective Friday, July 30, until further notice.&rdquo;&ldquo;This requirement applies to all students, faculty, staff and visitors regardless of vaccination status. Masks will not be required in on-campus residence halls where there is a significantly lower risk of exposure for high-risk individuals,&rdquo; the statement said.&nbsp;University administrations aren&rsquo;t the only ones cracking down on vaccination status and mask policies. One professor from Rutgers University took to Twitter to express his opinion on unvaccinated students.Board of Governors Professor of Chemistry and Chemical Biology Richard H. Andrew Mees, Media Relations Director, said that the &ldquo;mask policy is based on CDC recommendations and guidance from the NJ Department of Health. Masks are only required indoors whenever it is not possible to keep 6 feet of distance from people who may not be vaccinated. They may be removed in group settings where there is less than 6 feet of distance as long as everyone in the group is fully vaccinated.&rdquo;&nbsp;The university went on to say that &ldquo;students and employees who are not vaccinated will be required to wear a mask indoors and outdoors and may only remove it when alone in a private room, eating or drinking, or when seated at a workstation with at least 6 feet of distance from other people.&rdquo;&nbsp;&ldquo;Each day, we are getting a clearer picture of the vaccination status of our community members. We have not yet achieved a 100% vaccination rate - we are at 83% of students registered for fall classes and 81% of full-time employees - and there will be members of our community, including students, faculty and staff, who have or will receive an exemption as permitted by NJ law. Because of this, we have decided to continue mandating masks in order to keep unvaccinated community members safe when they are on campus.&rdquo; The school told Campus Reform that it &ldquo;does not plan to change its mask policy at this time.&rdquo; The university said it will &ldquo;continue to monitor the guidance provided to us by federal and state public health authorities, and we will adjust as necessary.&rdquo;&nbsp;When asked why the school still mandates masks if they believe the vaccines are safe and effective, the school said that they &ldquo;are following the best available scientific guidance, which suggests that wearing masks helps slow the spread of the virus.&rdquo; Campus Reform reached out to Ebright as well as Georgetown University, Central Connecticut State University, Montclair State University, and Duke University about their policies but did not receive a response in time for publication. The Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education (PASSHE) will spend $2.5 million of COVID-19 relief money on diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) programs.&nbsp;In late June, Gov. Tom Wolf (D-PA) announced <a href="https://www.media.pa.gov/pages/education-details.aspx?newsid=1146">support</a> for a budget that included $50 million in American Rescue Plan money for PASSHE &ldquo;to support the redesign and growth of the system to make a college education more affordable and accessible for students.&rdquo;&nbsp;&ldquo;This budget makes a historic investment in education so our students get the knowledge and skills they deserve,&rdquo; remarked Wolf in a June 25 announcement.The allocation &mdash; which will extend for the following three years and give PASSHE a total of $200 million &mdash; <a href="https://www.berksmontnews.com/news/pa--owned-universities-will-invest-2-5-million-on-diversity-equity-inclusion-initiatives/article_af5dad23-51f5-5aef-ab3f-2dbefe64f2fd.html">contains</a> the $2.5 million for DEI in the current school year. As nationwide calls to defund the police increase, crime in the city of Chicago continues to rise. Students going to school in the city told Campus Reform that the crime is noticeable.According to <a href="https://home.chicagopolice.org/wp-content/uploads/1_PDFsam_Daily_Public_CompStat_Report-3.pdf">statistics&nbsp;</a>published by the Chicago Police Department, murders are up 49% since 2019 and criminal sexual assault is up 23% since 2020. According to the <a href="https://www.chicagotribune.com/data/ct-shooting-victims-map-charts-htmlstory.html">Chicago Tribune</a> crime team, there have been over 2,020 victims of gun violence so far this year, an increase of more than 160 from last year.According to the <a href="https://chicago.suntimes.com/crime/2021/6/22/22544894/chicago-shootings-monday-june-21-crime-homicide-gun-violence">Chicago Sun Times</a>, 2020 ended with 775 murders, an increase of more than 50% from the 506 homicides in the prior year.Over the July 4th weekend, Chicago <a href="https://apnews.com/article/il-state-wire-chicago-shootings-homicide-ad5625aa7f0b93073a9b80142e5712fe">saw&nbsp;</a>one of its most violent weekends as over 100 people were shot. At least a dozen children were caught in the crosshairs of the gun violence.Campus Reform&nbsp;spoke to students who attend college in Chicago to get their firsthand experience with living in the city.When asked if he has noticed an increase in crime in the city since he started at University of Illinois Chicago, sophomore Ethan Melman told Campus Reform that he has noticed a rise in criminal activity.&ldquo;I work for my school&#39;s Student Patrol and since we are issued police radios we hear about all the reports that come through for the UIC police and those reports have only gone up. Car jacking, fondling of women in streets, and robbery are staples of the area of Chicago,&rdquo; Melman said.&nbsp;He added that there has been a noticeable increase in the number of 911 calls in the past week.Despite the data, Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot <a href="https://www.newsmax.com/newsfront/chicago-mayor-lorilightfoot-crime/2021/06/27/id/1026604/">claimed&nbsp;</a>that &ldquo;crime is on the decline&rdquo; in a June press conference.&ldquo;All of our major indices show a decline in our crime, and our homicides and our shootings year over year are down,&rdquo; Lightfoot said.&ldquo;We got a call for the police about a guy who brought a gun out to a bar literally a three minute walk from one of the campus&rsquo;s biggest dorms, the JST,&rdquo; Melman admitted.Lightfoot believes that the issue is the prevalence of illegal firearms in the city, and she is committed to &ldquo;fight and make sure this plague of gun violence is one that we win once and for all.&rdquo;&nbsp;&ldquo;It&rsquo;s wrong that the politicians of Chicago are flat out lying to the people of the city by claiming crime is going down when it very much is on the rise and nothing is being done to stop it,&rdquo; University of Illinois Chicago sophomore Ethan Melman told Campus Reform.&nbsp;&ldquo;The city is not getting any better and the crimes are not stopping. Washington University (WU) hosted an event called "Racism and Islamaphobia" in response to a student who dressed up as Osama bin Laden for Halloween.
Controversy ensued after photo surfaced last Wednesday of students dressed up in traditional military clothing pointing squirt guns at a student in a bin Laden costume with an American flag in the background, according to Student Life, the school's <a href="http://www.studlife.com/news/campus-events/2013/11/11/students-administration-respond-to-divisive-halloween-posting/">official student newspaper</a>.
Some students defended the photo as a representation of the Navy SEAL Team 6 capture of the terrorist leader.
During Thursday's event, hosted by the Muslim Students Association (MSA), students shared their experiences with racism and ideas for how to prevent "inflammatory" events in the future.
"The silence on the part of the administration and majority of our student body speaks to the systemic nature of the challenges to our university's principles of inclusion and equality," said MSA president and senior Ishaq Winters.
Vice Chancellor for Students Sharon Stahl expressed her apologies for the delayed reaction to the event.
&ldquo;I am the person, the only person, to whom this posting was sent on Halloween; I made a grave mistake in not responding sooner than I did. I deeply regret that,&rdquo; Stahl said. &ldquo;If I could go back and undo this, I would, but I can&rsquo;t, so I have to accept the responsibility of my mistake. I apologize, and I hope that moving forward you will be able to find it in your hearts to give me that grace.&rdquo;
