Activism Highlight on Campus:
Made National Headlines for ‘Buycotting’ Starbucks to Support Company’s Pro Gun Policies
On Valentine’s Day, February 14th, 2012 20 conservative student activists from the Ohio State Buckeyes for Concealed Carry held signs in the cold showing support for an initiative to allow concealed handgun carry on campus and throughout the community.
Mike Newbern, the group President, helped lead a “Buycott” rally in front of Ohio State’s local Starbucks to show their support for the company’s decision to support open carry.
Mike and the student activist stood outside the local Starbucks with signs in support of pro-gun policies. The students encouraged passerby to patronize Starbucks to show support for pro-gun businesses.
Their activism caught the attention of the local and national press, and was covered by the Los Angeles Times, the Christian Science Monitor, and the Lantern.
Mike is now routinely asked for comments for issues dealing with campus safety or second amendment issues by local news outlets, and he is a frequent guest on NRA Radio.
