Rutgers University recently debuted a program to teach students and staff about the illegal immigrant community, and at least one administrator wants to make the workshop mandatory.The &ldquo;DREAM Zone&rdquo; program, a three-hour interactive event that originated at New York University, expanded to Rutgers in April,&nbsp;<a href="http://www.dailytargum.com/article/2018/04/nyu-crash-course-in-undocumented-student-education-crosses-the-bridge-into-ru" style="text-decoration:none;">according to&nbsp;The Daily Targum</a>.During the program, students and faculty were taught various topics pertaining to the illegal immigrant community, including the history of migration to the U.S. and legislation that impacts Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) students.<a href="https://www.campusreform.org/?ID=10616" style="text-decoration:none;">[RELATED: UCSB students demand more resources for illegal immigrants]</a>Yuriana Garcia Tellez, the senior program coordinator of undocumented student services at Rutgers, showed a film about undocumented NYU students and their struggle to afford college, telling the&nbsp;Targum&nbsp;that the purpose was to humanize illegal immigrants so that participants can better empathize with them.So enamored is Garcia Tellez with the program, in fact, that she wants to make it mandatory for all Rutgers students.&ldquo;I think trainings like these are important to start conversations about how to begin supporting undocumented students in institutions, especially for people who are going into higher education,&rdquo; she said. &ldquo;The training should be mandatory.&rdquo;<a href="https://www.campusreform.org/?ID=10780" style="text-decoration:none;">[RELATED: Student gov to consider mandatory diversity course after protests]</a>At one point in the proceedings, participants were instructed to line up in two rows and start a dialogue about what the American dream means to them, which led to a larger discussion about the balance between American exceptionalism and simple &ldquo;Americanism.&rdquo;The program also included an analysis of a New Jersey bill to give illegal immigrant students eligibility for in-state financial aid, which has passed both houses of the state legislature and is currently awaiting approval from Democrat Gov. Rutgers trains students to empathize with illegal immigrants

A University of Washington student was arrested Wednesday for throwing paint on College Republicans members who were promoting a pro-gun panel the club was hosting that night.Diodato Boucsieguez, the CR group&rsquo;s director of outreach, told Campus Reform that several local Antifa supporters were filming his group for about 20 minutes earlier that day for doxing purposes.&nbsp;<a href="https://www.campusreform.org/?ID=9935" style="text-decoration:none;">[RELATED: Republican students harassed by Antifa vandals]</a>He also recalled seeing an individual with bright orange hair watching him through the grass behind the table for several minutes before approaching and dousing the students with paint.&nbsp;&ldquo;[The] individual walked around from my left and splashed my pants, our club banner, and other club materials with black paint,&rdquo; he said. &ldquo;Additionally, the school&rsquo;s table and canopy were splashed with the paint.&rdquo;<img src="https://s3.amazonaws.com/campusreform/10806/PaintSplatter.jpg" style="width: 500px;" class="fr-fic fr-dib">The perpetrator proceeded to take a picture of the vandalism before fleeing the scene, Boucsieguez noted, adding that several minutes later he called the police, who found and arrested the suspect outside the school&rsquo;s Husky Union Building after about 15 minutes of searching.The following day, another activist attempted to prevent passing students from seeing the pro-gun panel promotion by laying down across the CR&rsquo;s table and pretending to take a nap.&nbsp;<img src="https://s3.amazonaws.com/campusreform/10806/professornappingonCRtable.jpg" style="width: 500px;" class="fr-fic fr-dib">Victor Balta, a spokesperson for the University of Washington, condemned the vandals&rsquo; actions and told Campus Reform that the results of the police investigation will be forwarded to the King County Prosecutor for further action.&ldquo;Every student and member of our community has a right to peacefully express themselves without fear of intimidation, which is why actions like this that are clearly intended to stifle those rights are wholly unacceptable,&rdquo; he said. &nbsp;&ldquo;We have protocols and policies in place to address issues of harassment, including intervention by UWPD,&rdquo; Balta continued. &ldquo;As with all students and organizations that face harassment, the university is taking appropriate action to protect the community and our commitment to the free exchange of ideas.&rdquo;<a href="https://www.campusreform.org/?ID=10412" style="text-decoration:none;">[RELATED: College Republicans&#39; DACA event threatened, vandalized at UW]</a>Boucsieguez, however, claims that his group is used to such treatment on campus, pointing out that former CR president Jessie Gamble was <a href="https://www.aol.com/article/news/2017/01/09/student-says-she-is-being-harassed-for-trying-to-bring-conservat/21651176/" style="text-decoration:none;">harassed</a> by Antifa for attempting to bring a conservative speaker to campus. Student arrested after dousing College Republicans with paint

This year, college students across the nation are taking a more traditional approach to the hypersexualized culture that dominates the Valentine&rsquo;s Day season.
Rather than participating in sex-toy workshops and one-night stand seminars, students on more than 20 college campuses have decided to promote intentional dating with a &ldquo;#TakeAChance&rdquo; poster campaign, using the tagline, &ldquo;people are worth it.&rdquo;

The Love and Fidelity Network (LFN) is spearheading the event, supplying more than 1,000 posters with a pro-dating message.
Students plastered their campuses and dorms with posters that promote going on dates and getting to know one another as an alternative to hooking up.

Emily Hall, a senior at Harvard University and a Campus Reform Campus Correspondent, noted that casual hookups are the norm on her campus.
&ldquo;This campaign encourages people to take off their blinders a bit and consider that there might be someone who they'd like to have a relationship with,&rdquo; she told Campus Reform. &ldquo;Dating in college is not necessarily just a time suck or distraction&mdash;it can be really rewarding to have a boyfriend or girlfriend who is supportive during this time of our lives.&rdquo;
Currently, two dozen universities are participating in the peer-to-peer campaign, including elite universities like Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Georgetown, Notre Dame and Columbia.

Amelia Irvine, a student at Georgetown and a&nbsp;Campus Reform&nbsp;Campus Correspondent, was under fire earlier this year for her role as president of Love Saxa, a student group dedicated to promoting sexual integrity, marriage, and monogamy. She told Campus Reform that she is hopeful that the campaign will change students&rsquo; approaches to dating and hook-up culture.
&ldquo;We want to reinforce the message that Valentine's Day is about authentic love&mdash;and for many of us in college, that doesn't mean sex,&rdquo; she explained.
Meanwhile, many other colleges have kicked-off their annual &ldquo;Sex Weeks&rdquo; and activities in celebration of the annual holiday. &nbsp;The&nbsp;<a href="http://www.washingtonexaminer.com/ucla-preps-for-valentines-day-with-sex-squad/article/2648510">UCLA &ldquo;Sex Squad</a>,&rdquo; a sexual performance group, recently presented &ldquo;Foreplay&rdquo; to teach students new methods of sexual activities in honor of Valentines Day. &nbsp;
On the other coast, the University of North Carolina is celebrating by hosting its&nbsp;<a href="https://www.sexweekuncc.org/">annual Sex Week</a>, featuring a &ldquo;Slut Walk&rdquo; march around campus.

In light of the &ldquo;#MeToo movement,&rdquo; LFN Executive Director Alain Oliver said he wanted to start a campaign that &ldquo;would offer a positive view of dating and promote respect for the individuals involved, something that college hookup culture lacks.&rdquo;
Casual hookups &ldquo;may be sold as harmless fun, but this is far from the truth,&rdquo; he told Campus Reform, but &ldquo;aside from the health and safety risks of hooking up (which are many), young men and women report feeling hurt, anxious, confused, and even depressed as a result of casual sexual encounters.
&ldquo;The campus hookup scene is a race to the bottom, the man or woman who cares less about their partner gets to claim victory,&rdquo; he added. &ldquo;The more you objectify yourself and others the farther you fall away from what makes us human&mdash;caring about others. And since hookups are almost always fueled by inebriation they significantly increase the risk of sexual assault on campus.&rdquo;
Inspired directly by students who told LFN they were tired of the predictable campus hookup script, the campaign aims to instil a positive view of dating and promote respect for the individuals involved.
The Love and Fidelity Network seeks to advance the truth about the institution of marriage and the value of sexual integrity among college students and in university practices, policies, and social norms.

Students swap Sex Week for actual dates this Valentine’s Day

Every year, colleges and universities across the nation go to great lengths to keep conservatism off campus. 2017 brought about a perpetual state of outrage, with college students and faculty attempting to stomp out everything from the Constitution to Conservative clubs. One North Carolina college, however, took a slightly different approach.
The President of Warren Wilson College, a private North Carolina school with a liberal reputation,&nbsp;<a href="https://www.scholarships.com/news/liberal-school-seeking-to-recruit-conservative-students">announced</a> that the school will proactively recruit conservative students to increase intellectual diversity on campus. While the school deserves credit for recognizing the threat liberal bias places on a vibrant marketplace of ideas, sending the sheep to the slaughter isn&rsquo;t the answer. The reality is, America&rsquo;s campuses are unwelcoming at best, and dangerous at worst, for conservatives.
A better approach would be to actually protect freedom of expression on campus.
Our nation&rsquo;s colleges and universities are places of formation for our next generation of leaders and it is imperative that they not only respect freedom of speech, but understand the need to defend this core principle even when the speech and ideas of others are uncomfortable.
Fostering campus tolerance must start at the top&mdash;with professors and administrators. Instead, professors routinely use their positions of authority to promote their personal ideology to captive audiences, while administrators fail to hold them accountable.
For instance, a creative writing professor at Eastern Connecticut State University was&nbsp;<a href="../?ID=5561">caught on tape</a> telling his class that Republicans are &ldquo;racist, misogynist, money-grubbing people.&rdquo; On the other coast, a University of Nevada, Las Vegas professor was recorded <a href="../?ID=9927">telling her class</a> that President Trump is to blame for the Las Vegas massacre.
For years,&nbsp;<a href="../">Campus Reform</a> has exposed professors venting anti-conservative rhetoric in class. With power over grades, they use their classrooms as bully pulpits to force their ideas onto students while suppressing and maligning others. This silences conservatives and denies students exposure to ideas they otherwise may have learned from. &nbsp;
Hostility in the classroom translates into a hostile environment for conservatives, as they face social stigmatization and even physical violence if they express any dissenting opinions.
Consider the University of Central Florida&rsquo;s &ldquo;Diversity Chair&rdquo; who<a href="../?ID=9509"> declared</a> Trump supporters were &ldquo;not welcome on campus,&rdquo; or the Berkeley College Republicans who are routinely&nbsp;<a href="http://www.foxnews.com/us/2017/10/05/antifa-stalking-uc-berkeley-s-conservative-students-group-says.html">stalked, spat on, and attacked</a>, or the students at Fordham University who were <a href="https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https-3A__www.campusreform.org_-3FID-3D10251&amp;d=DwMGaQ&amp;c=cnx1hdOQtepEQkpermZGwQ&amp;r=kaAUPcZhpO1MvBc6jwa0VBiGZWXka6ART1tFuyQjLfc&amp;m=z0hb1s_0TPITAX2rspELljiEFtDA_rezjPTLuHVTI8g&amp;s=iNzPcNb08yeykXOOf2kv4fm8GNnWkeCxiUt_ovwF2ZE&amp;e=">forced</a> to leave a student-run campus coffee shop for were wearing &ldquo;Make America Great Again&rdquo; hats.
Such treatment becomes normalized when authorities engage in it, like when professors at the University of Nebraska&nbsp;<a href="../?ID=9649">harassed a lone student</a> while tabling for her conservative club. If speakers like&nbsp;<a href="http://www.dailywire.com/news/18778/uc-berkeley-blocks-shapiro-event-university-ben-shapiro#exit-modal">Ben Shapiro</a> and&nbsp;<a href="../?ID=9040">Jordan Peterson</a> being shut down or disinvited isn&rsquo;t revealing enough, cowardly administrators telling security to&nbsp;<a href="https://www.google.com/search?q=stand+down&amp;sitesearch=campusreform.org&amp;op=Go">&ldquo;stand down&rdquo;</a> and not provide protection from violent groups like Antifa at conservative events should be. This behavior is not only tolerated, it&rsquo;s celebrated. The Orange Coast College professor who called Trump&rsquo;s election an &ldquo;act of terrorism&rdquo; was named &ldquo;Faculty of the Year,&rdquo; while a California State University lecturer was&nbsp;<a href="../?ID=9454">reinstated</a> after allegedly <a href="../?ID=8826">assaulting</a> a College Republicans member.
If campuses are serious about preserving intellectual diversity, they must promote respect for all ideas. This means eliminating &ldquo;free speech zones,&rdquo; allowing conservative speakers, implementing consequences for biased grading, and punishing violence.
College students are adults; they deserve the opportunity to hear all ideas and draw their own conclusions. If we don&rsquo;t protect intellectual freedom on campus, we can only expect an indoctrinated American population, incapable of thinking critically about the complex issues we face as a nation.
Lynn Morton, the President of Warren Wilson College,&nbsp;<a href="https://www.insidehighered.com/admissions/article/2017/10/02/college-liberal-reputation-wants-recruit-and-admit-conservative">expressed grave concern</a> over the National Survey of Student Engagement, which revealed that only 23 percent of her students had ever conversed with someone holding different political views. Unfortunately, these students will leave campus unable to cope in the real world where they&rsquo;ll have to work and otherwise interact with people of various understandings and beliefs. &nbsp;
Kudos to Morton for attempting to make her campus more welcoming for conservatives, but it&rsquo;s not enough. American higher education cannot live up to its potential unless it protects everyone&rsquo;s rights, including conservatives who are already on campus. &nbsp;

OPINION: Sheep for the Slaughter 

The scariest Halloween costumes on campus are no longer monsters and bloody zombies, they&rsquo;re Hawaiian Hula dancers and native warriors. Yes&mdash;the PC police have managed to suck the fun out of yet another harmless holiday.
Princeton University&rsquo;s Carl A. Fields Center for Equality and Cultural Understanding started preparing early by <a href="https://www.facebook.com/fieldscenter/posts/1253013841510855">posting a guide</a> to avoiding cultural appropriation when selecting Halloween costumes.

The guide includes more than a dozen photos of &ldquo;offensive&rdquo; Halloween costumes and &ldquo;STRONGLY DISCOURAGES&rdquo; students from wearing costumes that portray other people&rsquo;s cultures or marginalized groups.
The featured costumes include a man in a &ldquo;Call me Caitlyn&rdquo; sash, Mexican attire replete with Sombreros and guitars, a Hawaiian Hula outfit, and ancient warrior garb.

In addition, Princeton&rsquo;s Undergraduate Student Government sent out an email warning students not to alter their skin color or body features, or to wear any costume that otherwise has the potential to create &ldquo;an unsafe or hostile environment.&rdquo;
Hypersensitivity is rampant on college campuses, and cowardly administrators lack the courage to allow these students to be offended and learn how to work through controversy like adults.
Once they graduate, those students can't go whining to sympathetic administrators to get their way. If they see someone out and about during Halloween with a costume they find offensive, they can&rsquo;t demand a cop to make them remove it. Part of adulthood is accepting things won&rsquo;t always be pleasant and realizing your personal discomfort is not a reason to punish others.

Earlier this month, a magazine run by Ohio State University students put out similar guidelines in the form of <a href="../?ID=9959">a flow-chart</a> designed to help students determine whether their costumes are offensive, warning against traditional headwear and dressing up as a person of another race, unless the person is non-white.
Anti-Trump costumes, however, are not only considered allowable, but are actually encouraged.

Cultural appropriation policing is nothing new on college campuses, of course. Last Halloween, Pennsylvania State University costume-shamed students with a&nbsp;<a href="../?ID=8195">poster campaign</a> and&nbsp;<a href="http://www.foxnews.com/us/2016/10/25/college-threatens-police-response-for-students-wearing-offensive-costumes.html">Tufts University threatened police response</a> for students wearing &lsquo;offensive&rsquo; costumes.
Florida State students have no need to worry, though, for their school&nbsp;<a href="https://www.cbsnews.com/news/university-of-florida-counseling-students-offended-by-halloween-costumes/">offers counseling</a> to students who feel offended by Halloween costumes.

Ironically enough, these same schools never bothered to consider the most targeted and marginalized group on college campuses: conservative students.
In fact, I came up with a few examples of costumes that may be considered offensive to Conservative or Republican students that seem to be missing from their victimhood flow-charts and appropriation guides, at least based on the standards they purport to use.
Is not Trumpism a culture in America? Is not &ldquo;Make America Great Again&rdquo; intellectual property (a component of Princeton&rsquo;s definition of &ldquo;cultural appropriation&rdquo;)?

I hope these schools consider these examples when making next year&rsquo;s Halloween guide, but in the meantime, these colleges might consider whether they are acting worse than the behaviors they are trying to prevent.

Halloween hypocrisy: Why can't everyone be offended?

Campus Reform&rsquo;s Program Manager and Contributor Hannah Scherlacher recently joined Fox &amp; Friends to discuss an <a href="http://www.foxnews.com/opinion/2017/09/29/southern-poverty-law-center-put-me-on-its-hate-list-it-s-smear-and-don-t-belong-there.html">article</a> she wrote about the Southern Poverty Law Center&rsquo;s bully tactics against conservatives.&nbsp;
Scherlacher was placed on a SPLC hate group list for appearing on a radio show with the Family Research Council. "It's a memorandum to their supporters that I am the enemy,"&nbsp;Scherlacher remarked.

She noted that groups like Antifa and By Any Means Necessary that routinely incite violence on college campuses were absent from any of SPLC's hate lists.
These radical leftist groups are ready, willing and working to dispose of conservatives' First Amendment rights, she remarked, calling SPLC "reckless and irresponsible" for targeting people this way.

Hannah Scherlacher pushes back against SPLC hate labels

A state lawmaker is a condemning a University of Wisconsin-Madison student's promotional&nbsp;video depicting police officers in pig masks hanging a black male, then being beheaded with a bloody machete.
<a href="http://legis.wisconsin.gov/senate/11/nass">The video was condemned</a> by State Senator Steve Nass (R-Whitewater) later that night in a press release, which also noted that the video had been hosted the school&rsquo;s IT platform (the video <a href="https://uwmadison.app.box.com/s/clog5p6nb92uaockrlw6joihpje6epwi">has since been removed</a>).
&ldquo;This vile and racist anti-police video is clearly a direct threat to the brave men and women that serve behind the badge,&rdquo; Nass remarked. &ldquo;UW-Madison must immediately hold these students accountable and that should include an investigation by the local police and the Wisconsin Department of Justice.&rdquo;

Four months ago, the UW-Madison student government faced backlash for <a href="https://www.google.com/url?q=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.campusreform.org%2F%3FID%3D9153&amp;sa=D&amp;sntz=1&amp;usg=AFQjCNErFm0v4oBW3Ze71VfvffcnvFrTFQ">passing anti-police legislation</a> that demanded &ldquo;community control&rdquo; of campus police to counter the alleged &ldquo;implicit bias&rdquo; within the department.

UW-Madison student releases 'vile and racist anti-police video'

Members of Columbia University College Republicans walked out of class Monday afternoon to find a man removing the flags from their 9/11 memorial.
The unidentified man removed a row of at least 50 flags, threw them in the trash, and went back for more. An angered Columbia University ROTC student recorded the event.
&ldquo;I ran over and asked him what he was doing, and was laughed at with no proper response,&rdquo; the student recounted. &ldquo;I asked a nearby Public Safety officer what could be done; but he was well within his rights to protest, so I recorded the video.&rdquo;

The University is currently looking into the situation and has not yet identified the man.
&ldquo;I am not surprised that this happened on our campus. Ever since the election, I believe that this campus has rejected any form of pro-American beliefs or sentiments,&rdquo; Columbia University College Republicans President Ari Boosalis told Campus Reform.
&ldquo;I am personally disgusted by the actions of this individual,&rdquo; Boosalis added. &ldquo;September 11th is a day where all Americans no matter their race, creed, or political affiliation should come together to remember those who have fallen and risked their lives for our safety.&rdquo;

Several students and a local veteran removed the mass of flags from the trash and planted them back in the ground. Within minutes their numbers grew from five to 15 as passersby pitched in to help.
&ldquo;This event is by no means political, but a day of remembrance and tribute, especially to the first responders who gave up their lives in order to save others,&rdquo; Boosalis remarked. &ldquo;We should never forget 9/11 and its legacy on our country.&rdquo;
The club&rsquo;s memorial was part of Young America's Foundation&rsquo;s &ldquo;9/11: Never Forget Project,&rdquo; a nationwide memorial dedicated to &ldquo;honoring the victims of radical Islam&rdquo; with over 206 participating campus chapters. &nbsp;

According to Boosalis, the club, in coordination with YAF, has faced unfair treatment throughout the year, including university policy changes that clamped down on requirements for conservative speakers on campus.
Campus Reform reached out to Columbia University Public Safety for comment but did not receive any responses in time for publication.

Mysterious man trashes American flags from 9/11 memorial

Professors at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln harassed the president of the school&rsquo;s Turning Point USA chapter Friday afternoon while she was tabling on campus grounds.
According to chapter President Katie Mullen, at least three professors circled the table while carrying signs and yelling things like &ldquo;f**k Charlie Kirk&rdquo; and &ldquo;TPUSA Nazis.&rdquo;

Graduate <a href="http://www.dailynebraskan.com/arts_and_entertainment/unl-instructor-offers-thanksgiving-to-her-students/article_4a38aad8-a4a9-11e6-b388-974212cf3a96.html">teaching assistant</a> <a href="http://www.unl.edu/english/courtney-lawton">Courtney Lawton</a> was recorded yelling &ldquo;Neo-fascist Becky right here. Wants to destroy public schools, public universities, hates DACA kids,&rdquo; while giving the middle finger to the camera. &nbsp;
Associate Professor <a href="http://www.unl.edu/english/amanda-gailey">Amanda Gailey</a> was pictured holding a sign that stated &ldquo;Turning Point: please put me on your watchlist,&rdquo; even signing her name to the impromptu appeal.

Mullen told Campus Reform that a university administrator eventually came out and told her she could not table because she was in a free speech zone. Campus police were called, however, and after assessing the situation they informed Mullen that she had the right to stay and table.
&ldquo;I was honestly shocked and scared. I was there for a couple hours and had no real issues but a couple debates,&rdquo; Mullen told Campus Reform. &ldquo;They came with posters screaming profanities at me and people passing by.&rdquo;

&ldquo;I didn't even engage, but I kept tabling as I wasn't going to let them silence me,&rdquo; she continued, but conceded that after a while, &ldquo;I got overwhelmed and scared and started to cry,&rdquo; at which point the professors &ldquo;screamed [that] I was crying for attention.&rdquo;
&ldquo;It shocks me that these are professors that are supposed to teach and support students and they were bullying me,&rdquo; she remarked.
Despite the furor, however, Mullen <a>claims</a> that her TPUSA chapter attracted 56 new sign-ups over the course of the day.

VIDEO: Profs bully TPUSA prez while she recruits on campus

The toxic, intolerant political environment is taking a disturbingly violent turn and last week&rsquo;s shooting is an outcome that many have been warning about&mdash;actual violence.
In recent weeks the world has seen Kathy Griffin pose with a representation of Trump&rsquo;s severed head, Madonna issue a call to blow up the White House, and Shakespeare in the Park portray the brutal assassination of an unambiguously Trump-like &ldquo;Caesar.&rdquo;
Concerns about the impact on society have been dismissed as hypersensitive, but advocating violence&mdash;even in the name of &ldquo;jest&rdquo; or &ldquo;art&rdquo;&mdash;shows a lack of civility, tolerance, and respect for human dignity.
The result is the normalization of violent, grotesque behavior intended to shut down opposing views, and nowhere is that more apparent than on America&rsquo;s college and university campuses. Campus Reform has been at the forefront of exposing this type of violence on college campuses&mdash;places where students are supposed to duke out their differences through debate and intellectual diversity, but have now become &ldquo;safe spaces&rdquo; where those who dissent from the majority endure <a href="https://www.campusreform.org/?ID=8790">suspension</a>,&nbsp;<a href="https://www.campusreform.org/?ID=9233">harassment</a>,&nbsp;<a href="https://www.campusreform.org/?ID=9110">"beatdown" threats</a>, and have even been&nbsp;<a href="https://www.campusreform.org/?ID=9252">held hostage</a> in their own classrooms.
Once the precedent of enabling and encouraging this behavior was set, it was no surprise that Middlebury students&nbsp;<a href="https://www.campusreform.org/?ID=8870">violently shut down Charles Murray</a>, hospitalizing one of their own professors.
Equally unsurprising, yet still deeply concerning: administrators at UC-Berkeley&mdash;the &ldquo;birthplace of the Free Speech Movement&rdquo;&mdash;refused to guarantee Ann Coulter&rsquo;s safety on campus.
And, of course, there&rsquo;s always the case of the Purdue staff member who <a href="../?ID=7290">suggested raping pro-life women</a>.
There is a blind eye turned toward this type of violence that goes hand-in-hand with a complete intolerance for dialogue and differences of opinion. What used to be the marketplace of ideas where students could hone critical thinking skills has become an indoctrination center where they have one of two options: be silent or face violence.
Campuses are breeding intolerance and teaching the next generation to combat ideas with outrage, with the result that the &ldquo;resist&rdquo; movement has evolved into the &ldquo;antifa&rdquo; movement before our very eyes. If students don&rsquo;t learn tolerance, respectful discourse, and respect for diversity of opinion, a continuation of this behavior can be expected&mdash;and the repercussions will be significant.
Our Founding fathers believed in a system that would check passion with passion, not violence. Anger has always fueled political discourse and it always will. But we have to stop and ask if that anger is justified.
Obama rallying for gun control and restriction of right-wing rhetoric after Gabby Gifford&rsquo;s shooting is not the answer. The liberal logic that says words are violent is the same logic that attempts to restrict offensive speech and free expression. The rhetoric can, however, be indirectly blamed if it directly advocates or defends violence&mdash;which is exactly what is happening on college campuses.
What can be learned from this rampant increase of violence is that words have power and must be wielded responsibly, especially in the classroom. The realization that respect and human dignity come before differences in political opinion is imperative. Constantly throwing around words like &ldquo;resist,&rdquo; &ldquo;fascist,&rdquo; and &ldquo;Nazi&rdquo; ups the ante in classrooms and lays the foundation for hostility. Students are afraid to speak up before stepping foot in the classroom.
If students learn hostility and intolerance now, they&rsquo;ll practice it their whole lives. Unfortunately, they are the ones being robbed of their education as they take this fallacy with them off campus. This intolerance is not only problematic for the workplace and community, it is a threat to the very existence of America, a nation that has long flourished thanks in large measure to its respect for individual rights and opposing ideas. &nbsp;
