The nation was in a state of mourning following the Sept. 10 murder of Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk, and the killing sparked requests to start more than 32,000 new chapters of the freedom-focused group. The death of Kirk also saw nasty responses, some offensive enough to violate employment agreements.

5. Iowa State fires employee who said Charlie Kirk is ‘rotting in hell’
Iowa State University employee Caitlyn Spencer was fired after a social media post appearing to say that Charlie Kirk was a “jack*ss” who “got what was coming, and I’m happy he’s rotting in hell now.” University President Wendy Wintersteen stated that Spencer, a financial aid advisor, acknowledged the code of conduct when she was hired but violated the “ethical obligations” of her employment.
4. Far-left gun club uses Kirk assassin’s anti-fascist slogan to recruit student members
In a disturbing incident at Washington, D.C.’s Georgetown University, the murder of Charlie Kirk was used as a recruitment tool for the John Brown Gun Club. The far-left firearm coalition posted flyers with the phrase “Hey, Fascist! Catch!,” a phrase on the ammunition allegedly used by Tyler Robinson, the person accused of Kirk’s murder.
3. UCLA suspends official who cheered Charlie Kirk’s death, after scrubbing DEI website
A DEI official was placed on leave after offensive social media posts justifying the killing of Charlie Kirk. Jonathan Perkins, UCLA’s director of race and equity, was placed on “immediate leave” after his posts on left-leaning social media platform BlueSky. In one post, Perkins said Kirk “made this bed” with his support of the Second Amendment. Perkins also said Kirk “reaped what he sowed,” and the assassination was “chickens coming home to roost.”
2. Tomato thrown at Charlie Kirk memorial, police officer swiftly intervenes
A police officer stepped in after a memorial for Charlie Kirk at Towson University was interrupted by aggressive fruit-throwing. A table with Kirk’s picture and several other items was pelted by tomatoes, and the suspect was swiftly apprehended by a nearby cop. Much of the incident was captured on video obtained by Campus Reform.
A man who identifies as a woman was fired from Oklahoma City University after celebrating the murder of Charlie Kirk. Paula Sophia Schonauer claimed to be a “target” of Kirk, and said the conservative speaker got a “taste of his own medicine.” The university did not mention Schonauer by name or speak to any specific situation in a statement after his firing, but it did highlight the importance of the employee code of conduct.
