University funded organization takes students on field trip to Planned Parenthood, sex club
A UGA student-funded group embarked on a field trip to Planned Parenthood so students could participate in a “reproductive justice training.”
The students also visited a two-story adult sex shop and sex club.
University of Georgia students took a field trip to a Planned Parenthood clinic and a two-story adult sex store over the weekend.
Seventeen students carpooled the 90-minute trip to Atlanta, Ga., along with one university administrator on Saturday. The students are all a part of the school’s Sexual Health Advocacy Group (SHAG), a student activism organization that uses student fees.
“[O]ur morning will start off with a regional cross dressers support group meeting … followed by a three-hour reproductive justice training at Planned Parenthood, and conclude with a stop at Inserection adult store,” according to the email description obtained by i. “A pizza lunch will be provided!”
The students participated in a “reproductive justice training” session at Planned Parenthood. A SHAG alumnus headed the three-hour training.
According to The College Fix, a Planned Parenthood spokesperson said the students also participated in “team-building activities” and discussed “the definition of reproductive justice.”
UGA students also visited Intersection, a two-story sex shop after the Planned Parenthood schooling. Intersection not only sells items expected at a sex shop--such as vibrators, edible underwear, and pornography--it serves as a sex club at night with “gloryholes.”
“As future health educators and counselors, they study and learn about a wide range of matters so as to gain accurate information and learn best practices in providing health education and counseling to the public,” Thomas Jackson Jr., vice president for public affairs at UGA said in an email. “The visit to Planned Parenthood and an adult store was chosen by the students so that they might get an understanding of the types of issues with which they’ll be working as future health educators and counselors.”
The students also met with Sigma Epsilon, Atlanta’s Tri-Ess International chapter. Sigma Epsilon is a cross-dressing support organization.
"SHAG's field trip is galling because the group claims to be about impartial and 'all-inclusive' health education," Blake Seitz, editor of UGA's The Arch Conservative told Campus Reform in an email. "There is nothing at all impartial about trips to Planned Parenthood."
According to their website, SHAG is “a student-led organization that strives to open up the conversation about sexual communication, sexual health and sex positivity.” The group’s calendar lists previous events on “not-so-typical” sex acts and offered free HIV testing.
SHAG did not respond to a request for comment from Campus Reform in time of publication.
