  • Texas Christian University in Fort Worth Texas is offering credit to students for completing internships with Planned Parenthood.
  • Pro-life groups are calling the internship a "disgrace," but TCU maintains that it does not endorse any political positions through its internships, and that students are free to pursue their interests.
  • Texas Christian University in Fort Worth Texas is offering credit to students for completing internships with Planned Parenthood.

According to StudentsforLife.org, the TCU history department sent out an email offering students a chance to intern at Planned Parenthood, where they will “develop a project highlighting its history in Fort Worth since it was established here in 1935,” adding “the PP office would like as a final project a 5-10 minute visual presentation (Prezi, video, etc) [sic] of its history, to present to other groups and organizations in Fort Worth.”

“It is a disgrace for [TCU] to offer credit for an internship at the largest abortion provider in the nation.”

“It is a disgrace for a large Christian university to offer credit for an internship at the largest abortion provider in the nation,” asserted Kristan Hawkins, president of the national Students for Life organization. “Instead of educating and equipping students on how to persuasively discuss the pro-life viewpoint and help women in crisis, they instead reward students for spending valuable time volunteering for an organization that ends the lives of over 325,000 innocent human beings a year.”

The president of the TCU chapter of Students for Life, Dani Orban, also expressed her outrage with the situation.

“Our mission as a group for TCU Students for Life is to spread a culture of life and awareness of campus,” Orban said. “We strive to educate our members as well as the greater TCU community to hopefully prevent things like this from happening at a Christian [u]niversity in the future. Our goal is to save lives by uncovering the truths about abortion and acting as a resource for women in crisis.”

She added that the incident “has shown that the Pro Life movement, especially on TCU's campus, has a long way to go, and TCU Students for Life will contribute to the awareness and creation of a Culture of Life!”

TCU has not responded to Campus Reform’s request for comment, but a spokesperson for the university did provide a statement to The Blaze defending the Planned Parenthood internship as merely one of many that TCU offers.

“Texas Christian University strives to provide diverse learning opportunities for students to effectively prepare them for the global community,” the spokesperson explained. “The university offers many internships in any given semester, and does not support political or personal statements associated with any of them. Students are encouraged to seek those that match their interests.”
